Get Busy with the Fizzy... SodaStream PR

What's the big idea?

Making carbonated water and soft drinks is simple! Turn tap water into sparkling water in under 30 seconds, with no clean-up. Enjoy the freshness and convenience of homemade soda and protect the environment at the same time. No heavy bottles to carry, store at home or throw away. Fizz to your taste and add the flavor of your choice to make your favorite drink. Simple to clean and reuse. With a variety of colors and silhouettes, you'll be sure to find a soda maker to match with any decor.

How Does SodaStream Help the Environment?
SodaStream is an "Active Green" product, meaning that consumers  are actively reducing their CO2 footprint every time they make soda  or sparkling water at home instead of buying it from the store. The more the system is used on a daily basis, the more CO2 footprint the user actively saves. (This differs from "Passive Green" products, which use green-friendly production processes, but their products are not inherently helping the consumers save on their daily footprint.)

Because SodaStream uses water straight from the tap, the system makes traditional store-bought beverage bottles obsolete. That means less plastic manufactured, less plastic waste is created, and fewer bottled beverages must be transported from manufacturers to distributors to stores to homes.

Globally, 206 billion liters of bottled water were consumed in 2008 (Zenith International Global Bottled Water Report, 2008). The energy required to make water bottles in the US only, is equivalent to 17 million barrels of oil (Container Recycling Institute, 2002).

According to the US Recycling Institute, more than 80% of bottles in the US do not get recycled and end up in landfills. Also, an estimated 4.7 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions were produced in the process of replacing the 134 billion bottles and cans not recycled in 2005.

Using your own home carbonation system means:
  • Less packaging waste from cans and bottles.
  • Less pollution caused by transport of bottled beverages.
One SodaStream carbonator makes 60 or 110 liters, equivalent to 170 or 310 aluminum cans! When empty, the carbonator is refilled and reused, ready to make more fizzy and tasty soda whenever you want it.

Recently I got the chance to try a SodaStream for a product review. Mind you, I quit drinking pop a few years ago because of the constant migraine it gave me and all the extra calories that I didn't need. I was heavily addicted to regular Pepsi and I hated anything diet. Every once in a while I get this huge urge to drink a can of ice cold Pepsi and usually I cave in. Pepsi has always been an evil nemesis of mine. I now have a new addiction though, energy drinks. I live and breathe energy drinks so when I found out that the SodaStream had an Energy Drink that's made to taste and work like a Red Bull, I was all over it!

When my SodaStream came it was instantly put to the test. It takes all of five minutes to get the SodaStream out of the box and set up for use, that's how easy this piece of equipment is. The hard part is trying to figure out how much carbonation to use. The machine makes a really loud noise when you're supposed to stop but I always add a little extra. The first time I used this I made Root Beer but, I obviously put way too much carbonation in it because it exploded all over the place. It tasted good but my tummy wasn't very happy with me, if you catch my drift.

During the course of the week I decided to make everyone that stopped by try some of the flavors that SodaStream has to offer, which is quite a lot! My grandpa was the first to step up to my little challenge. The first flavor he tried with us was the orange soda; we all agreed that it tasted just like a Sunkist soda. Next we tried the Root Beer which everyone seemed to like but me; it was way too sweet for my blood! A few days later, my friend stopped by two of her daughters so I decided to suck them into this taste test as well. The first one we all tried together was the Cola. Remember when I said that I was a Pepsi addict? Well, my friend still is one so SodaStream's Cola flavor didn't stand a chance! We were skeptical that it could compare to our favorite soda without tasting like diet, but it did. It tasted just like Cola and had no diet aftertaste at all. Later, we tried the Country Time Lemonade with the kids and it was a hit! The lemonade is definitely my favorite flavor so far. Who doesn't like carbonated lemonade?

Today I put the SodaStream up to the ultimate challenge by testing out the energy drink. My daughter was sick yesterday and up all night tossing and turning. Needless to say, this Mommy hasn't had much sleep. Can the SodaStream Energy Drink actually wake me up without tasting like I just ate a whole bag of black liquorice? YES IT CAN! The Energy Drink Flavor actually tastes like Red Bull and does the exact same thing a Red Bull is supposed to do. I am in absolute awe! Drinking the SodaStream Energy Drink will keep more cans out of the landfills while saving you tons of money.

All SodaStream regular sodamix uses a mixture of Splenda® and sugar. Diet flavors are sugar-free,  sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener. Comparison is based on 8 fl. oz. serving size (0.34 fl. oz. of SodaStream sodamix per 8 fl. oz. of water).

Not only does SodaStream make naturally sweetened soda, energy, and lemonade flavors but they also have Sparkling Water, Tea, Crystal Light, and Sparkling Naturals flavors. The great thing about all of SodaStream's Flavors is that compared to the norm they are significantly lower in calories, carbs, sugar, and sodium. Not only that but each 16.9 fluid ounce bottle (around $5-$6 a bottle) of flavor makes about 50 servings which is a huge steal.

In closing, the SodaStream is a great investment. SodaStream is much better for the environment, their flavors taste great, the machines are very easy to use, and they come in a variety of styles and colors to match your unique personality. I would suggest going to your local retailer to pick up a SodaStream for yourself. While you're there, check out all the flavor options SodaStream has to offer!

Herbal Essence Naked Volume Collection

**I received this item for the purpose of a review. I was in no way compensated for my opinion as they are my own. Your opinion may vary from mine.** Herbal Essence has a new collection out called the Naked Collection Volume. Obviously I was intrigued by this because naked to me means no crazy chemicals and my hair loves products like those. I used to have very thick and healthy hair but it has thinned out dramatically since I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease over 5 years ago. Nowadays, my hair is very picky about the products I use. I wouldn't say it's damaged, it actually looks and feels pretty healthy, but it goes flat and becomes greasy quick because of how thin it is. Because of the autoimmune disease I have, I like to watch what kind of chemicals my body comes in contact with. Anything is mess up the balance in a compromised immune system. Needless to say, I was excited to learn more about the Naked Volume Collection by Herbal Essence.  The naked Naked
